The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for one tenure track cybersecurity position at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: risk management, design of secure systems, cyber physical systems, cloud computing, automotive systems, malware reverse engineering, intrusion and malware detection, network security, cryptography, trusted systems, provenance, digital forensics, cyber-operations, and response and recovery. The candidate recruited for this position will have opportunities to interact with the newly established Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education.
Successful applicants will have earned a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Applicants should demonstrate (a) potential for scholarly activities that are supported by publications, externally funded contracts and grants (b) commitment to teach and mentor students and (c) a desire for university and professional service.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers the BS, MSE, and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering, the MS in Software Engineering degree, the BS degree in Optical Engineering and the PhD degree in the Optical Science and Engineering multidisciplinary program. The department has 21 tenured/tenure-earning faculty with over 600 undergraduate students and about 230 graduate students. The ECE Department has research strengths in the areas of optical materials, signal processing, machine learning, health monitoring, and cybersecurity. Current sources of faculty funding include federal sources such as NSF, NSA, DOD and NASA, and industry.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE: The College of Engineering currently has a research focus that addresses three National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Grand Challenge problems: secure cyberspace; restore and improve urban infrastructure; and engineer tools of scientific discovery. The College of Engineering and the ECE department play an important role in several UAH research thrust areas including (a) cybersecurity and big data, (b) aerospace and systems engineering, and (c) earth, atmospheric, and space systems. The College enrolls a third of UAH’s undergraduates in ABET?accredited programs in aerospace, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial and systems, mechanical, and optical engineering.
