Our Lady of the Lake College, a Catholic institution with a strong health sciences focus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, seeks a Dean for the School of Nursing with demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to advance the mission of the College. The mission of the College, inspired by the vision of St. Francis of Assisi and the Roman Catholic Church, seeks to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to God’s people, especially those in need.
Our Lady of the Lake College is a subsidiary of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOLRMC) and is an integral component of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System in Louisiana, with an active presence of Franciscan Sisters in the College.
It is desired that the successful candidate have an appreciation for Catholic higher education; an abiding ability to actively support the Catholic ethos of the College; a calling to the College’s mission; and a commitment to promote collegial collaboration with student life educators in order to foster a student-centered approach to the formation and education of its students.
In addition, he or she must be a registered nurse (RN) eligible for licensure in Louisiana, have an earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline, with at least one advanced degree in nursing, from a regionally and professionally accredited institution; clinical health-care experience or experience overseeing clinical programs; exposure to and understanding of evidence based practice, research and scholarship; an understanding of the value of formation as essential to higher education in the Catholic intellectual tradition; an appreciation and respect for exemplary teaching at all degree levels; experience/expertise with a variety of accreditation processes, especially those related to professional degree programs; and senior leadership experience in higher education administration or comparable experience with health care education.
Founded in 1923 as a hospital-based diploma nursing school, the College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and has approximately 1650 students with a full-time faculty of 71. Current programs of the School of Nursing include DNP-Nurse Anesthesia, MSN-FNP, MSN, BSN, RN-BSN. Approximately 72% of students are enrolled in nursing programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, 18% in other health professions at the undergraduate and graduate levels, 9% in arts and sciences at the undergraduate level, and 1% in certificate programs. The College is moving to increase its program offerings in select disciplines at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels. All degree programs are based on a sound foundation in arts and sciences courses with additional emphasis on moral and ethical professional and personal behavior.
Our Lady of the Lake College is the only Catholic college as well as the only four-year private college in Baton Rouge. This location in the capital city of Louisiana, one hour west of New Orleans, offers distinct advantages. Baton Rouge’s urban environment has nearly 1M in the metropolitan area and provides faculty, staff, and students with theatre, music, dance, art, festivals, sports, and the region’s world-renowned Cajun cuisine.
