Open Rank Faculty Position in Early Childhood Education - Wayne State University - Detroit, MI

Description

The Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child and Family Development (MPSI) at Wayne State
University (WSU) invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track or tenured position at MPSI,
with a joint appointment at one of WSU’s Schools or Colleges based on candidate background
and interests. Candidates should have a doctorate in Psychology, Education, Human
Development and Family Studies, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field; we
also welcome applicants from disciplines not traditionally associated with child and family
research, but which can enrich the perspective of our Institute (e.g., Economics). The candidate
should show clear evidence of/outstanding potential for high-impact and externally funded
programmatic research. The candidate is expected to develop an independently funded
program of research focusing on early education among low-income and minority children;
associations between educational outcomes and stress and resilience at the family and
environmental levels; and/or on interventions regarding early childhood education, with
implications for policy and program development. In addition, MPSI coordinates a consortium of
Early Childhood Care Centers and is developing an ambitious registry of parents who are willing
to be contacted about research studies. Our hope is for an applicant who will energetically
leverage these resources to conduct high-quality, high-impact externally funded research.
