Under the general direction of the Vice President of Administrative Services or other manager as assigned, the Director, Student Health Center has the following responsibilities:
Example of Duties:
a. Plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate the services and activities of the Golden West College Student Health Center.
b. Select, orient, supervise, and evaluate staff, including nurses, physicians, health educators, and other personnel used in the Student Health Center.
c. Perform in the capacity of a registered nurse or nurse practitioner.
d. Maintain a secure system of accurate and confidential health records in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
e. Develop standard procedures and protocols consistent with the California Nursing Practice Act.
f. Maintain an inventory of necessary supplies, equipment, and medications, and assure their proper storage, security, and use.
g. Provide leadership and direction for campus health related issues and concerns.
h. Plan, implement, and evaluate health education, including mental health, and wellness information programs for faculty, staff, and students.
i. Consult with faculty, staff, administration, and public health organizations on college health issues, including mental health.
j. Participate in campus wide committees working to support the mission of the college, and on health issues.
k. Serve as the college coordinator of substance abuse prevention programs and assure compliance with state and federal regulations.
l. Provide and facilitate presentations for the campus community on college health topics.
m. Serve as liaison to community-based health providers to coordinate health referrals and services, and evaluate their effectiveness.
n. Collaborate with other offices and campus entities to implement strategies leading to student success and well-being.
o. Participate in professional organizations that promote the mission of Student Health Services.
p. Facilitate student learning by developing innovative learning environments.
q. Serve as a member of the campus Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT).
r. Coordinate with nursing and professional programs at other colleges and universities to provide internship opportunities within the Student Health Center.
s. Manage the Center's budget and provide recommendations and budget projections.
t. Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
1. Must meet one of the following qualifications (a) through (c):
a. A Master's degree in Nursing.
b. A Bachelor's degree in nursing AND a master's degree in Health Education, Health Science, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Health Care or Policy Administration, Public or Community Health.
c. Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least equivalent to the above (must attach application for equivalency).
2. Valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.
3. Valid certificate in Public Health Nursing issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.
4. Possess a current CPR/AED card for Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
5. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
1. Experience with communicable disease prevention, including reporting, screening, public health management and follow-up.
2. Experience in the supervision of registered nurses, other health care providers, and coordination of physician activities.
3. Ability to assess and respond to a variety of medical and mental health emergencies within the Student Health Center.
4. Certification or training as a Behavioral Intervention Team member by NaBITA or other national organization, and/or training in threat assessment.
5. Recent experience as a nurse in a college or university health services program.
6. Ability to use computers for report writing, data and record management, and related activities.
7. Experience in creating and managing a budget.
8. Written and oral communication skills appropriate to the position.
9. Ability to perform nursing procedures, including patient assessments, injections, and evaluation for tuberculosis and other infectious disease; knowledge of infectious disease reporting.
10. Knowledge of mandated reporting requirements for nurses, physicians, and psychology staff; knowledge of Title IX and Clery reporting requirements.
Conditions of Employment
This is a contract, full-time, 12-month per year, Educational Administrator position. The normal hours of work will be 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Hours of employment may expand/vary beyond published hours depending on the need of the office and/or students. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.
Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

Starting salaries for academic positions are based on a combination of education and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on longevity and professional development. An additional annual stipend is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution. All movement on the salary schedule will occur July 1 of each year for all eligible employees.
