Job Description
As Director of Nursing you will represent WGU in Indiana. This is a critical position that requires a high level of professional networking with local CNO’s, CEO’s, Nursing Directors, Hospital Administrators, and professional trade organizations. All WGU nursing degrees are CCNE accredited; the Director of Nursing will work closely with the Indiana State of Board of Nursing and accreditation bodies to maintain CCNE standards. The Director will champion the professional development of the Indiana Lab and Clinical Instructors working with WGU pre-licensure students. The duties of the Director can be completed from a home office, but will require some travel. The Director will stay connected with the team via video conferencing, e-mail, and phone. The DON will also play a critical role in shaping WGU’s Indiana Nursing programs at Operational Meetings, Retreats and Annual Academic Conferences.
Responsibilities:
  • Participates in curriculum development, evaluation, and revision activities
  • Participates in development and administration of Departmental Budget
  • Conducts regular and ongoing evaluation of program to ensure that quality standards are maintained 
  • Provides regular and ongoing evaluation of student retention, satisfaction, and competency attainment 
  • Facilitates student progression and collaborates with Program Manager and Mentors for individual student academic plans
  • Assists with recruiting, qualifying and hiring Program faculty 
  • Leads, supervises, and evaluates Clinical Instructors and Clinical Coaches. Establishes reasonable and objective performance expectations. Provides appropriate motivational support and initiates corrective action when indicated 
  • Provides direct contact for students residing in the state that are in the Pre-licensure BSN Program 
  • Serves as the contact person for Clinical Instructors when student issues occur within the clinical settings 
  • Meets with liaisons from clinical agencies routinely but not less than once a year 
  • Establishes and provides ongoing support for clinical placement and skills/simulation lab partnerships
  • Provides reports, updates and ongoing communication with the state board of nursing and supports accreditation activities at state and national levels
  • Establishes and tracks enrollment projections and collaborates with WGU Health Profession enrollment team
  • Represents the WGU nursing programs to external constituencies
  • Other duties as assigned  
 
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills 
  • Prior success with obtaining regulatory and or accreditation approvals in nursing or healthcare
  • Experience with integrated technology systems and tools 
  • Proven record of success in working with adult students, assessment of learning outcomes, student advisement and distance education
  • Proven record of success with establishing partnerships and/or clinical affiliations
  • Proven personnel management expertise
  • Professional networking and presentation skills
  • Financial management and budgeting skills
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a variety of teams within complex organizations
  • Proven success in managing and leading change
 
Required Experience
  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, doctorate strongly preferred 
  • Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Indiana
  • Must reside in the State of Indiana
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
  • At least three years’ experience in academic and/or industry leadership with progressive responsibility and a track record of successful leadership 
  • Minimum of two years’ experience teaching in pre or post-licensure nursing programs
