Experience and Education
Master's degree in nursing or related field, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education program, three (3) years general nursing experience, licensure as Registered Nurse by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas, and a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification course accredited by the
American Heart Association (AHA) are required.
Job Duties
Obtains and records complete medical history.
Performs physical exams according to departmental protocols.
Obtains and interprets laboratory tests according to departmental protocols.
Assesses patient database and identifies biopsychosocial needs.
Develops and implements patient management plans, following nursing processes and procedures identified in standing orders.
Recognizes deviations from normal in-body systems and refers to appropriate medical/social resources.
Initiates and manages preventative healthcare services.
Provides relevant counseling and education to patients and significant others within role limitations.
Facilitates teamwork through planned group processes, i.e. workshops, seminars, and staff meetings.
Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.

This position will involve consultations with primary care providers in delivery of measurement based care (MBC); education of primary care providers and other clinical staff in screening, diagnosis, and management of mood disorders; research evaluations; and management of treatment-refractory mood disorder patients in outpatient setting. The candidate will also assist faculty in the Treatment Resistant Mood Disorders Clinic within the Center.
The successful candidate will have experience in the field of psychiatric illness with a focus on mood disorders and be able to function as a member of multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include collaborating with primary care providers to deliver high quality treatment for mood disorders; conducting clinical or translational research studies; preparing research protocols; and supervising nurses or nursing students. Opportunities for teaching exist at the graduate and postgraduate levels. Additional training for research is available within our division.
Candidates must have a Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing, preferably doctorate .
Candidates must be licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the State of Texas. As this position involves significant interaction and consultations with as well as training of primary care providers, candidates should be certified as Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner by an approved certifying agency. We are interested in candidates who are skilled educators and have prior experience of working with human-research subjects as well as treatment-refractory mentally ill patients.
