Emmanuel College is seeking a collaborative and visionary Director of Library Services who will be responsible for the development and implementation of short and long term plans for the Cardinal Cushing Library, in alignment with the College's mission and strategic plan. Under the direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of Library Services hires, supervises and supports a high performing team of eight professional librarians, ten part-time reference librarians, one support person and 25 library student workers.
Responsibilities include:
  • Shape and articulate a vision of the library in alignment with the College mission and strategic plan.
  • Development and oversight of the library budget, including careful stewardship of the library resources.
  • Advocate for the library both internally and externally to sustain and expand the library's visibility in the community.
  • Continue to develop collaborative working relationships across the Emmanuel College campus and among fellow consortia members to ensure the Library is meeting and responding to constituency needs.
  • Provide effective and responsible management of the library including the library space, library staff, and project management.
  • Oversee the continuing evolution and growth of a strong information literacy program and collaborate with faculty to ensure students apply critical thinking and evaluation methods to all types of information.

                                                                
Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with the following experience and education:
  • MSLIS or equivalent degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Advanced degree in an additional academic discipline; PhD preferred.
  • Significant experience in ALL areas of library operation with strong interpersonal communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • Five or more years of library administrative experience, with increasing responsibility, and an emphasis on long-term planning, community outreach and staff development.
  • Demonstrated outreach experience in engaging a college community through cultural, academic, and social events.
  • Demonstrated commitment to current and emerging technologies in the library field.
  • Ability to collaborate with the Archives Librarian in the management of the archives to preserve, promote, and provide access to the Emmanuel College history.
  • Ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies.
